ASK THE DENTAL EXPERT
Dental Implant in pune
My child is seven years old, and her permanent teeth have erupted but overlap the milk teeth. The milk teeth have not fallen off yet. Is that normal?
Typically, permanent teeth begin to erupt around the age of six. Ideally, they should push out the milk teeth as they come in. However, if the permanent teeth have erupted without displacing the deciduous teeth, it is important to have the milk teeth extracted promptly. I recommend visiting a pediatric dentist, also known as a pedodontist, as soon as possible. The dentist will likely take X-rays or an orthopantomogram (OPG) to evaluate the situation and take appropriate action.
I am a 72 years old retired Army officer and I have had a bypass done. I also have a medical history of diabetes and arthritis. I regularly consume rum (alcohol). My teeth are moving and I am unable to eat my food properly. What is the best option for me?
The best option to replace moving or missing teeth is a dental implant. However, with your medical history, I am not sure if it will be 100% successful. Request you visit an implant specialist to get a CBCT scan and thorough evaluation done. If you have sufficient bone, dental implants can be considered. There are other factors like you will have to keep your sugar levels in control for at least six months, during and post dental implant surgery. In a worst-case scenario, if implants cannot be done, then the other option for you is the wear removable dentures.
I am a 33-year-old male and I have a bad breath. I have been using mouthwashes and brushing regularly, but bad breath persists. What can I do?
Visit a dentist and get a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums done. Stick to the oral hygiene regime prescribed by your dentist. If bad breath persists then visit a GIT specialist. Continuous bad breath may persist due to severe acid reflux and other stomach issues.
Doctor, why is dentistry so expensive? Root canal treatments, implants etc are unaffordable for the common man?
Dentistry is not expensive! Neglect is! If you maintain a good and punctual oral hygiene regime you will mostly not require doing procedures like root canals or implants. Cavities don’t form overnight. It takes years of neglect for cavities to go deep through the enamel and dentin in the tooth to reach the pulp, after which a root canal is necessary. If you have regular dental checkups, cleaning etc. your dentist will detect cavities at an early stage and just a simple composite filling can be done to prevent further decay. These fillings are very reasonable.
I have pain in my lower first molar, but it is not a continuous pain. It is sensitive to cold foods. I am scared of getting a root canal done as my parents have had a bad experience with the same. What do you recommend?
I recommend you visit an experienced endodontist – a root canal specialist. The signs and symptoms indicate that the tooth may go for a root canal treatment. However, only an X-ray can confirm the same. Once your dentist takes the X-ray he will be able to guide you to the exact treatment plan. Let me assure you that root canal treatment is not at all painful if done by an experienced dentist who uses the latest technology.
I am a 37-year-old female, and my front teeth have spaces between them. I am not happy with my smile. But I do not want braces or orthodontic treatment. What do you recommend?
What you need is a smile design. It can be done using laminates/veneers or crowns and bridges. If the spaces between your teeth are too many then I would recommend crowning them up. All the spaces will be closed and you will have ideal-shaped teeth with perfect contours. Before deciding the best treatment option in your case, a thorough clinical examination with photographs is taken and an analysis of your smile is done. Software is used to design your smile. It has to be done by an experienced dentist who specialises in this work. Suggest you visit a dentist immediately.
My father is 78 years old, a retired army officer. He is healthy and very fit for his age and has been a denture wearer for 10 years. He wants to get implants done and wants fixed teeth. What is the procedure and what is the cost of full-mouth dental implants?
Implants are the best option for missing teeth. If his bone permits and he doesn’t have any systemic disease he should go in for implants. In my practice the procedure is as follows - a thorough evaluation of the patient is done. We record the complete medical history; take X-rays of the area where Implant surgery needs to be done. Take a CBCT scan if required. Make a treatment plan, discuss it with the patient, the budget etc. Then if the patient approves, we take written consent and proceed with the surgery. It is a completely planned procedure so the chances of any mistakes or error is negligible. After administering local anesthesia full arch surgery with 6 implants usually takes 90 min to 120min. Procedures in my practice involve minimal pain and discomfort.
